INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMISSION OF PAPERS

  • The language of the journal is English. Contributions must be submitted by e-mail as Microsoft Word file.
  • Manuscripts must be double-spaced, using 12 point font and include an abstract of approximately 100 words. An article may not exceed 9,500 words, including abstract, footnotes, and references.
  • Ideally, manuscripts must be prepared for blind review. The author’s name should appear only on a separate cover letter or e-mail, and any references to the author’s work must be made in the third person. (Please also be aware that identifying information can lurk in the Properties of a Microsoft Word file, or in other metadata.)
  • A paper should have the following sections, each beginning on a new page: title page, abstract, main text, appendices [when necessary], figures and tables, references, notes.
  • Even though the final printed version of your paper will have footnotes printed at the bottom of the page in small type, you are requested to place the footnotes at the end of the manuscript. This page should have the title “Footnotes”. The whole page should be double-spaced and in full-sized type. We suggest that you use your word processor’s Endnote (not Footnote) function to create your notes.
  • Discursive footnotes should be avoided; incorporate material in the body of the text whenever possible. The remaining footnotes should be numbered consecutively throughout the typescript. Footnotes should not be used for simple citation.
  • A bibliographical list of cited references (in alphabetical order) should be headed “References”. Within this list, each reference should begin with the author’s surname, given name or initials, the year of publication in parentheses, followed by the rest of the information. More than one reference by the same author should be listed in chronological order. In the text, simple citations or attributions should be made by supplying the author and year of publication, for example, “Jones (1958) claims ...” or “New evidence overturns this theory (Smith 1974, 46).” Note the comma between year and page, but not between author and year. Note also that there is no “p.” or “page” preceding the page number.
  • Authors are responsible for the completeness and accuracy of their bibliography and citations. Be sure that the references include complete page numbers for all articles in journals. We prefer complete numbers, e.g. 123-127, not 123-7 or 123-27, both in the text and in the references section. Also the reference list and in the main text citations should contain the number references without “page” or “pg.”
